Mass Effect 2: 0 Days Guess What I’m doing? Well if you guessed eating dinner and minutes away from kicking off ME2 then you’re right (dude gotta eat).
I’ve thought about it long and hard and I’ve come to a decision. I am going to play as the fist character I started with, Augustus. Mass Effect being a western RPG lets you create the look of your character to some extent including the choice of being male or female and even give them a first name other the ubiquitous John/Jane. I bought the game day one and I believe I even got carded, which at a certain point is just ridiculous, but I fell in love with it. Sine November ‘07 I’ve played the game through five times including the last play through I finished last night.
My characters range from nasty to kind and a lot of the grey area in between. First out the gate was Augustus, which is a name I just always liked. I basically played this to my natural inflection – forgiving and kind but unafraid to take it there when shit hits the fan. After playing as a mostly good guy I wanted to be a buy who would do the opposite of most of the decisions I made the first time around and effectively being a douchbag and that’s why he was named Halister. To me that hast to be one of the douchest names in the world. Halister, doesn’t that just sound like a complete douchbag?
After I completed the game twice I was comfortable with letting it gather dust or so I though but for some reason while having other game I could play ended up back in the shoes of Commander Shepard, this time as a lady. Toni was her name and I think she was kinda hot for a computer generated being. Is that weird? I think it is but I have heard of stranger things. Anyway Toni was played with the intention of being a little more ‘good’. Well, more of an intention than just balls out going crazy. I also wanted to have a Paragon person who had a living council at the end…spoiler, IMO.
I found out way to late that the DLC for the game could only be played mid-game so you know what that means…start over. Behold the birth of Oliver I also decided to do every mission that didn’t involve collecting minerals. I was successful with that endeavor and I was good as hell .
Lastly was Sapphire, the queen bitch with a bad attitude and big done. She was my speed run if you will, only taking a week. I did just about every bad thing I could think of except kill Wrex.
If you are down to play ME2 but don’t want to put the time into running through the first then here’s the first game in 5 minutes.
Soon, so soon. I have a clock that I steering at counting down the seconds. If you still aren’t convinced that this game is too cool for words have a look at what game director Casey Hudson has to say about the characters and relationships.
The days lesson and my anticipation grows. Soon Commander Shepard, my Commander Shepard will be turned loose on the world of ME2. This going to be awesome.
The guys reconvene to rant about late night, mention the Kardashians, Dollhouse, Heroes getting wrong again, Mass Effect 2 is coming and Skins – watch it.

I’ve been making what amounts to a speed run through the first Mass Effect, for two reason. One, reason was to remember what the hell happened and two, cause I’ve been fiending for a little ME love.
On this run I’m a cold hearted and flat out mean woman with a soft spot for the color blue…if you know what I mean.
Oh and SPOILERS ahead. Here’s the IGN Video review. This doesn’t help my addiction.
You know how there are those movies that you like even though you know they are bad or just not that good? Well WhiteOut is one of those movies for me and it’s not just because of that scene where Kate Beckinsale gets ready for her shower in the beginning of the flick – but that was great.
The story is centers around a US Marshal investigating the first murder in Antarctica. With its fair amount of twists and turns, not to mention action this tale does a good enough job at exciting the tale of the graphic novel with a few liberties.
OK, so it’s not a life altering movie or all that captivating I find it to be one outhouse movie I can just watch any time. Most people think the middle of the road movies are not really worth caring about but I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts they are the movies people watch the repeatedly the most. All I’m saying is check it out and if you don’t like it at least you got to stare at Kate Beckinsale for like an hour and a half and when has that ever been bad?
Update: Wow! So I finished the last 3 episodes of the show and man it was a gut bunch. the end of this generation was a bit heavy on the sad but still really good, really good. This season marks the end of the first generation and has an all new cast, save Effy and Pandora. I was a little skeptical of this but it might work and after watching series 2’s Effy I think I want to see what she’s going to do next?

I usually like to make my recommendations movies especially because I call it movie of the week but this week it’s all about television, like the time I said you should watch Farscape and you most likely didn’t care to pick it up, but it was brilliant and it’s your loss. This weeks though my pick is Skins.
I spent the week rushing home and kicking on the PS3, firing up Netflix and playing episode after episode of the show, patly wanting to see them all at once but not wanting to blow through it to quickly as to not make the new thing old to quick. The BBC show that centers around a group of friends (Tony[the manipulative suave and de facto leader], Sid[the "loser"-ish guy who is in love with his best friends girlfriend], Michelle[the girlfriend of Tony who constantly deals with his "nature" because she loves him], Jal[the musically focused and best friend to Michelle], Chris[the party animal and pill popper with a ton of family issues], Anwar[the fun loving Muslim and best friend of Maxxie], Maxxie[the dance/theatre and resident gay guy] and Cassie[the unstable anorexic odd girl with a ton of her own issues]) in what is basically the american equivalent of high school. Each episode may forward the story lines of several of the characters but basically center around one, showing what they are going through and delving deeper into their personal world.
The episodes do a really good job at mixing drama and comedy with moments that ratchet up the drama and tension then cutting it with a laugh. I also like the fact that all the drug use and sex isn’t presented as an after school special type of mood. Look all the people this show is aimed at most likely know drugs are bad so the heavy handed messages aren’t really needed so it just kind of plays out more realistically even though it has a ton of flights of fancy and unreal moments but the characters seem more real when they’re not trying to learn you. I’ve started forming how I want this to end in my head and I just know that that’s not going to happen but I can’t stop watching. I’m just waiting to be heartbroken but I still love the show.
